Who We Are

The American Martial Arts Renmei ® hereafter known as “AMAR” is a not for profit, “Kokusai Jinkou Kyoukai” (self regulating) organization established to be a professional organization governed by guidelines in compliance with international martial arts standards. In 1985, Grandmaster John A. Suarez, a Judan founded the American Martial Arts Renmei to further propagate the professionalism of all disciplines and styles of the martial arts. The major focus of AMAR is the preservation and popularization of the martial arts for future generations. It is the mission of the American Martial Arts Renmei to support positive martial artist throughout the world and to recognize Sensei’s who have lost their up line and any chance of upward mobility. The Executive Board of Examiners are empowered to license, promote, issue title, train and register qualified Black Belts members and Martial Arts Schools so that they may progress and receive the respect and recognition that they so richly deserve for their dedicated service. The Executive Board of Examiners is comprised of 9th and 10th Dan’s responsible for governing the various divisions nationally and internationally. It also holds two annual Yudansha (Black belt examinations) where members may attend and be examined for rank and title.

What We Do

The American Martial Arts Renmei ®, (AMAR) was founded to provide an organizational structure to facilitate corporation between major martial arts organizations. We are non discriminatory in our acceptance of martial arts disciplines and styles and we encourage all instructors and school owners of like mind wishing to become members of this innovative martial arts family to apply. As a sanctioning organizational body we are dedicated to the preservation of the “Old Budo Way’s” and offer an alternative for serious dojo’s and organizations. While growth in itself has never been a goal of AMAR, the organization does extend a membership invitation to other Sensei’s of martial arts styles and disciplines as a means to bring together practitioners of the arts. As an awards panel, our Board of Examiners are empowered to bestow “Shogo” designations on deserving members. Example: Soke, Meijin, Hanshi, Shihan, Kyoshi, Renshi and Tashi.

We Promise You

The success of the American Martial Arts Renmei is based upon its “no politics” approach to the operation of AMAR and its strong belief in the value of each of the various martial arts systems. These are two issues that are at the heart of AMAR beliefs and will not be compromised. The officers of AMAR are pledged to continue to do everything they can to make AMAR the most professional, ethical and responsive organization possible while at the same time maintaining our strong training focus.
